Percy Earl Lanier, Sr. 87, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Cleveland Nursing and Rehabilitation. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 12:00 pm until the 1:00 pm service at Burton Funeral Home, Indianola. Burial will follow at New Cleveland Cemetery, Cleveland, Mississippi, all under the direction of Burton Funeral Home. Mr. Lanier was born in Cleveland, Mississippi to Charles and Eva Lanier. He was a Marine Veteran, serving in World War II in the Philippines. He continued his career with the military as Master Sergeant in the Air Force until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the Air Force Association. Mr. Lanier was a Baptist by faith, and was an avid musician. After his retirement he was a full time musician playing the violin, trumpet, guitar and the steel guitar. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Johnnie Ruth Stafford Lanier; one sister, Dora Holder of Wilmington, North Carolina; and two brothers, Clarence Lanier of Van, Texas and Harvey Lanier of Martins Mill, Texas. He is survived by one daughter, Lorry Blackwell of Forrest, Mississippi; one son, Earl Lanier, Jr. of Richardson, Texas; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
