Obituary

Alaina Scroggins Pate, 46, of Hollandale, passed away at her home on October 7, 2026.

She was born on June 12, 1980, in Greenville, Mississippi, and was the daughter of George and Scottie McGregor Scroggins. She was raised in Indianola and enjoyed working on the farm with her father as she grew up. She was truly a country girl. Alaina graduated from Indianola Academy, earned a nursing degree from Mississippi Delta Community College, and later completed EMT training after nursing school. Alaina built her life around helping people. She worked as an EMT for Pafford Ambulance Service and also served as a 911 operator, including at Baptist Hospital in Memphis. Her dedication to caring for others was at the center of who she was, and she will be remembered as a great EMT. She was well known and had many friends in the medical field, where her kindness and commitment made a lasting impression. Outside of her work, Alaina loved arts and crafts.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. McGregor, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Scroggins, Jr.

Alaina is survived by her parents, George and Scottie Scroggins of Indianola; her daughters, Ana Scroggins Sandifer of Indianola and Maranda Pate of Isola; her son, Travis Louis Pate, Jr. of Isola; her sister, Margie Barger (Alan) of Greenwood; her uncles, Thomas D. Scroggins of Lake Providence, LA and Jimmy McGregor of West Helena, AR; her nephews, Brandt Alan Barger, Clayton Ray Barger, George Griffin Barger, and Thomas Jake Barger all of Greenwood; and her best friend, Carmen Scarlett Schwantz of Stutgart, AR.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola.  Graveside services will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
