Alma Strickland Flynn, 92, of Inverness died Friday, July 8, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - DeSoto in Southaven. She was born April 18, 1924 in Slayden, Mississippi and was the daughter of Arthur and Ora Bell Strickland. She was a member of Inverness United Methodist Church, where she was a member of UMW and Young At Heart. Ms. Flynn, affectionately known as Mamaw, loved cooking for people and helping anyone. She loved the Lord, her family, and tradition. Ms. Flynn worked for Horne's Drug Store in Inverness for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Leroy Flynn in 1987; two sisters, Pat Colston and Eugina Hurdle; and Curtis Dupree Strickland. Ms. Flynn is survived by three daughters, Shirley Evans of Inverness, Linda Durrett of Inverness, and Gwen Ingle and her husband Kermit of Birmingham, Alabama; two sons, Mike Flynn and his wife Paula of Oxford and Barry Flynn of Leesburg, Florida; three sisters, Margaret Byrd of Horn Lake, Dot Hooker of Decatur, Alabama, and Betty Scott of Horn Lake; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday, July 11, 2016 from 10:00 am until 10:45 am at Inverness United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Inverness. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola is in charge of arrangements.
