Elizabeth Ann Johnson Purcell, 91, of Brighton, Tennessee, and formerly of Indianola, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018, at her home.
Ann was born August 2, 1926, in Carrollton, Mississippi to William Clinton and Jessie Myers Johnson. She was raised in Greenwood and was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Greenwood Leflore Hospital School of Nursing. Ann worked as a staff nurse for Kennedy Veteran's Hospital in Memphis for a year and a half prior to moving to Indianola to get married. She began working as a nurse at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola and during her career, she became Director of Nursing and also served as the Interim Administrator. Ann worked for South Sunflower County Hospital for over 30 years prior to retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lewis Purcell.
Ann is survived by two sons, Lewis W. Purcell, Jr., and wife Debbie of Havanna, Florida, and Doug Purcell and wife Carol of Brighton, Tennessee; brother, William C. "Billy" Johnson and wife Sue of Clinton, Mississippi; five grandchildren, Janna Looney of Atoka, Tennessee, Jaclyn Goelz and husband John of Lakeland, Tennessee, Abby Kelley and husband Dan of Jamestown, North Carolina, Nick Purcell and wife Katie of Bartlett, Tennessee, and Lewis Purcell of Clarksville, Tennessee; and three great grandchildren, Hope Looney, JT Looney and Braxton Kelley.
Graveside services will be held Monday, April 16, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Indianola City Cemetery in Indianola, Mississippi. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
