Obituary

Billy Ray (Bill) Ammons, 90, of Inverness, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at his home.

Bill was born November 8, 1928 in Hattiesburg and was the son of John Winfield Ammons and Eva Lee Smith Ammons.

In 1952, after serving his country in the Korean War, Bill moved to Inverness where he taught science. After several years of teaching, he became a farmer. Bill was a former Eagle Scout and Scout Master. He was a long-time member of Inverness United Methodist Church where he served on many boards and committees within the church. Bill was also a very active member of the Inverness United Methodist Church Choir. He was very involved within his community where he served as President of the Sunflower County School Board and was a member of the Inverness Lions Club.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Mary Evelyn Fleet Ammons.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Clark (Beth) and her husband Jim of Bowling Green, Kentucky; one son, John Fleet Ammons and his wife Charlene of Inverness; five grandchildren, Chris Ammons and his wife Yancy of Denver, Colorado, Jared Clark and his wife Jessi of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Rachael Ammons Whitaker and her husband Curtis of Houston, Texas, Katie Clark of Nashville, Tennessee, John Clark and his wife Morgan of Idaho Falls, Idaho; four great grandchildren, Piper and Evelyn Clark of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Lark Ammons of Denver, Colorado, and Jude Whitaker of Houston, Texas.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 19, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. A second visitation will be held Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 1:00 pm until the 2:00 pm funeral service at Inverness United Methodist Church in Inverness. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery in Inverness. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
