Brenda Joyce Hill Grubb went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 20, 2026.

Brenda was born on December 9, 1940, in Rome, MS, to John Howard and Marlou Viner Hill. When she was six, the family moved to Clarksdale, MS, where she attended Kindergarten through 12th grade and graduated from Clarksdale High School in 1959. She furthered her education at DSU and received a degree in elementary education. She was a Statesman cheerleader. She later earned an M.A.T. with an emphasis in psychology from Mississippi State University. She took additional classes at Mississippi University and MDCC.

In 1961, she married Carl Loyd Grubb, and they made their home in Moorhead for 62 years until his passing. Carl taught and coached at Moorhead High School and MDCC. Brenda taught 4th grade at Moorhead Elementary, co-owned and taught at Humpty Dumpty Kindergarten for two years, and taught Psychology for 32 years at MDCC. Teaching was Brenda's passion. Her first teaching experience was teaching Sunday School lessons to junior high students at the First Christian Church in Clarksdale while she was in high school.

Brenda was a loyal Trojan (MDCC) fan. After retirement, she and Carl attended many Trojan athletic events. They were so humbled that the girls' softball field was named the Carl and Brenda Grubb Girls' Softball Field. Brenda enjoyed taking treat bags to the Lady Trojans to let them know how special they are. She was very active in the MDCC Alumni Association. She was inducted into the MDCC Sports Hall of Fame as the recipient of the Jimmy Bellipanni Award, Distinguished Trojan Award, and Alumna of the Year. Out of their love for MDCC, Carl and Brenda established the Carl and Brenda Grubb Endowed Scholarship to assist students. Carl and Brenda were also loyal DSU fans. They attended many DSU events and athletic activities.

Brenda loved her immediate and extended families. A highlight of her year was when their children, children's spouses, grandchildren, and relatives on both sides of the family would gather at their home. Friends outside the family were often invited as well. Santa Claus would always appear to give gifts.

Brenda loved and was very dedicated to her churches, whether it was the First Christian Church earlier in life, or the Moorhead Methodist Church after her marriage. She served in various capacities: Sunday school teacher for various age groups, secretary of the local board, chairman of missions, altar flower coordinator, bereavement coordinator, and card ministry coordinator. She also loved volunteering with Kairos Ministry, a prison ministry.

Brenda loved living in Moorhead. She served on the Moorhead Planning Commission, was a member of the Moorhead Garden Club and the Moorhead Town and Country Bridge Club, and was very active in Delta Grace Mission. She was a novice journalist and loved submitting news articles to the Enterprise Tocsin pertaining to news and events in Moorhead.

Another passion of Brenda's later in life was serving the Yanky72 families who lost loved ones due to the military plane accident on July 10, 2017, four miles east of Moorhead, when 16 military personnel perished. She was on the committee responsible for organizing the annual memorial weekends and worked very hard to secure private funds for the Yanky72 Memorial Monument.  She mailed countless packages of newspaper articles each year covering Memorial Day weekend, as well as cards throughout the year for various holidays, to the families. She collected many newspaper and magazine articles over the years to establish the only comprehensive display of the tragic event and to highlight each of the heroes who died. This display is in the historic Yellow Dog Museum in Moorhead. These 16 families became her extended family. She was most recently acknowledged for her service at the 200th Anniversary Marine Corps Ball on November 1, 2025.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Marlou Viner Hill; brothers, Clifton Hayes Hill and Kenneth Howard Hill; sister, Beverly Hill Simpson Pentecost; brother-in-law, Doug Pentecost; husband of 62 years, Carl Grubb; and sister-in-law, Mildred Garnett.

She leaves behind her daughter, Dr. Carondelet Grubb Nollner (Mike); son, Karl Grubb (Robin); grandchildren, Braxton Tanner, Kyle Grubb, Karlyn Grubb Goff (Trey), Anne Marie Nollner, Christian Range (Mike), and John Nollner (Kelcie); great granddaughters, Lucy Brett Grubb, Charlee Range, Frankee Range, and Ellie Nollner; great grandsons, Conley Nollner and Robin Bollner; sister, Patricia Hill Garmon (O.L.); many nieces and nephews; grand and great grand nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Moorhead Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2:30 pm. Burial will follow in Moorhead Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
