Obituary

Brian Stephen Bankhead, 73, of Indianola, passed away Friday, April 26, 2024, at Allegiance Specialty Hospital in Greenville.

Steve was born August 1, 1950, in Jackson, to Cecil Abney Bankhead and Elsie Jean Milton Bankhead. He was raised in Greenwood and was a graduate of Cruger Tchula Academy. After high school, he attended Mississippi Delta Junior College. Steve was a Mississippi Army National Guard Veteran. He worked in quality control for Tennessee Gas for many years and later worked for Dixie Fire in Greenville. Steve was a very friendly person and loved to talk. He never met a stranger. Among his favorite things to do, was WalMart trips so he could go see who he could run into and talk with. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, but he always remained an avid supporter of the NRA. Steve also loved Ole Miss football. He was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church in Indianola.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Elsie Bankhead.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kathy Sears Bankhead of Indianola; stepdaughter, Beth Spikes (Matt) of Bastrop, Louisiana; stepson, Eric Summarell (Blake) of West Monroe, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Abbigail McKaskle (Connor), Grant Spikes, and Caiden Summarell; and his beloved dog, Roxie.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, at Eastwood Baptist Church in Indianola. The memorial service will begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jimmy Pender officiating. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation.
