Carlis Gordon Lyon, 88, of Shaw, MS passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on Sunday March 2,2025.
Carlis was born on February 4,1937, to Ethel Roy Lyon and Novella Johnson Lyon. He attended Shaw School and started farming in 1952. He married his beloved wife, Patricia Anthony of Indianola, MS in 1959, and they spent the next 65 years creating a beautiful life. During this time Carlis did many notable things and was always looking to help someone else. He served in the Army Nation Guard. He was a founding member of Fairview Marie Hale Water Assoc. serving as a dedicated board member for 51 years, first as Vice President, and then as President for 20 years. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church for 50 plus years.
Carlis was one of a kind and lived life to the fullest. He never met a stranger. He was an avid horseman who loved a good trail ride. He spent the last years of his life overseeing the farm and taking care of his horse Renegade, but the thing that brought him the most joy was spending time with his family.
Carlis is proceeded in death by his parents and his sister, Jean Lyon Sykes.
Carlis is survived by his devoted wife Patricia Anthony Lyon; one sister, Ethelene Lyon Skelton of Shaw, MS; three children; Keith Lyon (Debbra) of Shaw, MS; Carla Lyon Casper (Timmy) of Greensboro, GA; Melissa Lyon Livingston (Todd) of Cleveland, MS; Grandchildren, Heather Ferrell (Sean) of Forest, MS; Kord Lyon (Kayla) of Shaw, MS; Cole Casper of Winder, GA; Ivey Casper Dunagan (Cole) of Statham, GA; Trey Prewitt of Cleveland, MS, Cody Livingston (Abi) of Crystal Springs, MS; and Lauren Livingston of Cleveland, MS; Great-Grandchildren Ross, Nora, and John Carlis Ferrell of Forest, MS.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Graveside services will follow in Indianola City Cemetery with Pastor Brad Beckwith officiating. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
Carlis leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and devotion to his family, friends, and community. He will be deeply missed by all who love him. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 224 N Michigan Ave., FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
