Carolyn Staten Goss, 69, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

Carolyn was born November 28, 1953, in Ruleville, to Ray Staten and Eloise Price Soto. She was a loving spirit and tried to help everyone she could. Carolyn learned this at an early age after her father lost both his arms in a cotton gin accident. She stepped up to work to help provide for her siblings and to help care for them. Carolyn was a giving person; she opened her home to everyone.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Staten; mother, Eloise Price Soto; and sister, Wanda Pulliam.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 34 ½ years, Loy Goss, Jr. of Cleveland; two stepdaughters, Laura Stringer (Jeremiah) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Samantha Montemayor  of Boyle; sister, Mary Vandeventer Hendricks (David) of Bloomfield, Indiana; three brothers, George Staten of Indianapolis, Indiana, Dion Staten (Jennifer) of Trafalgar, Indiana and Ike Soto (Angie) of Greenville; two sisters, Dawn Smith (Rick) of Indianapolis, Indiana and Tammy Davis (Isaac) of Boyle; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in Itta Bena Cemetery in Itta Bena. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
