Jessie Carolyn Kitchens Roberts, 89, of Indianola, and formerly of Moorhead, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023, at Saint Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Carolyn, affectionately known as Grandmother, was born July 17, 1933, in Lexington, to CB and Mercie Kitchens. She was a graduate of Lexington High School where she loved playing basketball and playing in the band. Carolyn married Charlie Roberts, and together they made their home in Moorhead. She was the Bookstore Manager and Dorm Mom at Mississippi Delta Community College for many years prior to her retirement. Carolyn lived her life serving others. She never met a stranger. Carolyn enjoyed watching sports, cooking, reading, shopping, visiting with friends and family, and doing her bible study each day. She was a member of Moorhead Baptist Church.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie Roberts; daughter, Rita Roberts; one sister, Lucille Lacy; and two brothers, Elroy Kitchens and CB Kitchens, Jr.
Grandmother is survived by her two sons, Charles Roberts (Cindy) and Robin Roberts (Kathy); Godson, Larry Wayne Holder (Dodie); grandchildren, Nick Roberts, Brooks Roberts, Matthew Roberts, Casey Roberts, and Jessica Harrison; great grandchildren, Alissa Smith, Heather Roberts, Katelyn Roberts, Macie Roberts, Lola Roberts, Brit Roberts, Zoey Roberts, and Immy Roberts; and great-great grandchildren, Avery Smith and Grayson Smith.
Before moving to Indywood, she had wonderful sitters at home that she loved, Mae Robinson, Tonya Robinson, and Katie Mae King.
A celebration of life reception will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm, at the B.B. King Museum in Indianola. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
