Obituary

Catherine Callaway Snowden, 70, of Moorhead, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 12, 2017 at her home.

She was born June 7, 1946 in Greenville, MS to Mr. & Mrs. Robert Windle Callaway, Jr. of Indianola, MS. Catherine was a graduate of Indianola High School in 1964 and then attended the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS where she earned a B.S. in Mathematics. She went on to receive a Masters in Guidance Counseling from Mississippi State University and additional graduate courses from Delta State University. Catherine taught mathematics at Greenwood High School and Henderson Jr. High School in Starkville, MS before coming to Mississippi Delta Junior College in 1974 where she taught math for 30 years. After her retirement in 2004, she continued to teach part-time at the MDCC for additional seven years.

Catherine enjoyed playing tennis as a young adult, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her beloved friends and family. She was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother and wife to her husband Allen Snowden for over 48 years. She treasured the time spent with her entire family, especially her two daughters and four grandchildren. She was affectionately called "Mamou" by her grandchildren as well as all those who adored her.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Windle Callaway, III of Indianola.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, 2 daughters, Carrie Lary and her husband Bryant of Greenwood and Allyson Lofton and her husband Nick of Moorhead; son-in-law Mike Price of Moorhead; 2 sisters, Susan Callaway of Decatur, Georgia, and Sally Montgomery and her husband Baird of Greenville, South Carolina; and lastly 4 grandchildren, Hunter Allen Price, Catherine Grace Lary, Mallory Crawford Price and Noah West Lary.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 14, 2017 from 12:00 pm until the 2:00 pm funeral service at Moorhead Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Moorhead Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Moorhead Baptist Church, P.O. Box 550, Moorhead, MS 38761 or the American Cancer Society.
