Obituary

Charles H. Johnson III, 75, went to see the Lord on Saturday evening, June 12, 2021.


He was born in Colon, Panama Canal Zone and grew up in Houston, Texas. He died from complications due to COVID-19.
Charles lived a full life and worked many jobs during his lifetime. He worked for Sunflower County under the SETA program for three months. He helped build the first McDonald's in Indianola and was also employed there for nine months. He worked for the City of Indianola for 22 years until his retirement in February 2001. He left the city due to health problems.

Charles participated in the Boy Scouts program and became an Eagle Scout when he was around 14 years old. He was a scout leader for Troop 41 under Mr. Leslie Fletcher.

Charles was preceded in death by: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Johnson Jr.; and three sisters, Charlotte, Alice and Tina Johnson.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 43 years, Shirley Johnson of Indianola; two brothers, Jeff Johnson of Freeport, Texas and Howard Johnson of Taos, New Mexico; one sister, Charleen Johnson of Jacksonville, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, June 21 at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola.  Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 22 at Indianola Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Pete Roncali officiating.

Burton Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He loved you all and will be greatly missed.
