Charles "Charlie" Allen Turner, 81, of Moorhead, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, in Indianola, due to a brief battle with liver cancer.

Charlie was born April 22, 1943, in Inverness, Mississippi to Jim and Mary Turner. As a young child, he often missed the first few weeks of school to help his family pick cotton in the fields of the beautiful Mississippi Delta. He graduated from Shelby High School, where he was notoriously known for his laughter and pranks. In the mid-sixties, he served in the Mississippi National Guard. In 1968, he began what would be his lifelong career as a Long-Haul Truck Driver. Known to other truckers as "Rhinestone Cowboy", he drove all over the United States delivering and picking up loads. As an avid fan, in the beginning of his career, "Rhinestone" would often try to schedule loads to where he could attend Elvis concerts. Throughout his life, if you were riding in any vehicle with him, you would often be serenaded by him whether you wanted to be or not.

If you were a friend of Charlie's, you were a friend for life. He had a personality that would light up a room. He hardly had a conversation that was not full of joy and laughter. He loved people and loved making them smile.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Danny Turner and Ronnie Turner, his sister Josie McGuffie, and the mother of his children, Carolyn M. Turner.

He is survived by his son Charles "Chuck" Turner Jr. of Knoxville, TN; his daughter Cherlyn Stone (Doug) of Ponder, TX/Starkville, MS; three grandchildren: Rebekah (22), Ethan (18), and Colton (14); his sister Linda Fray of Gulf Shores, AL; Sister-in-law Shirley Turner of Inverness, MS, Sister-in- Law Rhonda Turner of Merigold, MS; nieces Andrea, Angela, Leslie, Peggy, Shirley, nephew Andy and numerous cousins that he dearly loved.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff (the Dietician, Cooks, Wound Care Nurse, Techs/CNA's, Respiratory Therapists, Nurses and the wonderful Dr. Ray) of South Sunflower County Hospital, who took exceptional care of him during his last 10 days of life. Because of you, he was able to pass from this earthly life with dignity and no pain.
