Charlotte Holloway Buchanan was born on Christmas Day 1932 on a farm near Cruger, Mississippi to James Thomas and Frankie Pike Holloway. She died on Monday, March 8, 2021. She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, and three brothers. She is survived by one sister, Carolyn. Charlotte and her husband, William Vassar Buchanan, lived in Indianola and enjoyed many years in the community with their children until he passed away on Monday, March 8, 1993. Later, reacquainted with high school friend, Tony "Dieter" Vincent, Charlotte and Tony were married for a short time until his death. Charlotte leaves her children William Vassar Buchanan, Jr. of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Pam Buchanan Eifling (Boyd) of Hollandale, Robert Moss Buchanan (Julie of Indianola), and Ben Holloway Buchanan (Lyeah) of Greenville. She also leaves her love with her four grandchildren Will Eifling of Starkville and Brennan, Steen, and Cale Buchanan of Greenville. She also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews.

Charlotte served on the Indianola Board of Aldermen for three terms and was Vice-Mayor for two terms. She was a certified court reporter for the Fourth Circuit Court District and a contract reporter for the Northern District Federal Court. Charlotte was the first woman to be elected Justice Court Judge in Sunflower County and served three and a half terms before her retirement. She was a published writer for Scott Coopwood Publications, The Leland Progress, the Enterprise-Tocsin, as well as freelancing for other publications. Charlotte also enjoyed being a "hostess" for Billy Johnson at the Mississippi Wildlife Heritage Museum in Leland, MS.

Charlotte was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Indianola and enjoyed attending St. John's Episcopal Church in Leland where she resided for the last seven years. She had moved from Indianola to Leland to be the first Innkeeper for The Thompson House. She, also, served on the Boards of the American Red Cross in Indianola, the Greater Delta Chapter of the March of Dimes, the American Heart Association and Sunflower/Humphreys County Progress. Charlotte was an avid tennis player and active in playing USTA League tennis and tournaments well into her early eighties. When she could not play tennis anymore, she still cheered on her Leland team and even her opponents at every match. Charlotte also treasured her many years of friendship with Greenville Country Club tennis pro, Jamie Bell, and enjoyed many visits with him and family at local matches and tournaments. She enjoyed the game of bridge and belonged to several clubs. Charlotte loved her tennis and bridge friends very much.

Burton Funeral Home of Indianola is entrusted with Charlotte's services. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with graveside services at the Indianola City Cemetery to be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Jon Doler will conduct Charlotte's services with Father Charles Bucciantini assisting. In lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Indianola, St. John's Episcopal Church in Leland, the Leland Food Pantry, or Indianola Academy.

Pallbearers will be Will Branton, Brennan Buchanan, Steen Buchanan, Will Eifling, Hunter McCaskill, Josh McCaskill, Matthew McCaskill, Bret Reynolds, Mike Sabbatini, Henry Smith, Kent Toler.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Abide, Weldon Aultman, Jamie Bell, Curtis Buchanan, Billy Johnson, Wesley Keen, Hulbert Lipe, Frank McWilliams, Jimmy McWilliams, Johnny McWilliams, Kenner Patton, Walter Pitts, Lou Reed, Rusty Reed, Paul Sabbatini.
