Dana Denay Matthews, 55, of Indianola, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at her home.

Dana was born August 11, 1967, in Marks, to Sam Hugh Sr. and Janice Allen Matthews. She graduated from Gentry High School and earned her Associates degree. Dana worked in payroll for the Sunflower County School District until her health declined. She was a born again Christian and dedicated as much time as possible to Christ. Dana was a very kind and caring person and was always helping others with anything. She was a wonderful cook and caretaker for her parents, nieces, and nephews. Dana's proudest moment was the birth of her daughter, Anna. She loved her with everything she had in her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Janice Matthews and sister, Stephanie Matthews.

Dana is survived by her beloved daughter, Anna Oswalt of Indianola; brother, Sam Matthews, Jr. (Wendy) of Vidor, Texas; nieces, Brittany Pearson, Swayze Peeples, and Sarah Matthews; nephews, Hunter Matthews, Sam Hugh Matthews, III, and Caleb Willms; and great nieces, LeAnn McCrary Gracea McCrary and Samantha Willms; and great nephews, Joe McCrary, Christopher McCrary, Eli McCrary, and Xander Pearson.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm at Burton Funeral Home. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
