Daniel Wylie Smith, 70, of Indianola, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2026, at his home.
Daniel was born August 30, 1956, in Sunflower County, to Hubert and Louise Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Indianola. Daniel worked as a mechanic at Wade Incorporated in Indianola for many years prior to his retirement. He was a great mechanic that was often specifically requested by local farmers. Daniel worked especially hard for his family. In his free time, he enjoyed flying remote-controlled airplanes and going fishing with his son, Heath. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Nothing meant more to him than his family. He was a giving person and would give others anything to help them.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Heather Faith Smith; and sister, Eloise Benson.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Cynthia Akins Smith of Indianola; son, Heath Smith (Jessica) of Brandon; grandson, Knox Smith; brother, Hubert ‘Bubba’ Smith (Cathy) and; two sisters, Beckey Neal and Nancy Grissette all of Tupelo.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 21, 2026, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
