David Cager Freeman, 88, of Sunflower, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025, at his home.

David, known to many as Flop, was born October 19, 1936, in Sunflower to George Marion Freeman and Mary Agnes Neel Freeman and was a lifelong resident of Sunflower. He graduated from Linn Consolidated High School. David joined the Mississippi Army National Guard and earned the rank of Platoon Seargent prior to his retirement. He owned and operated Freeman Farms farming cotton and catfish for 30 years. David was a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; nothing brought him more joy than his family. He enjoyed singing to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and playing with them. David also enjoyed gardening and working in his pecan orchard. He was a member of Sunflower Baptist Church.

David was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Julia Riley Freeman; and three sisters, Jean Freeman McBride, Kathleen Freeman Collins, and Sara Freeman McGovern.

He is survived by two sons, David Lance Freeman (Marla) of Ridgeland and George Riley Freeman (Tammy) of Sunflower; two daughters, Lisa Freeman Spencer (Randy) of Brandon and Kay Freeman Dodge (Patrick) of Brandon; six grandchildren, Erin King (Lucas), Jesse Blackwell, Morgan Wheeler (Matt), Kelly Freeman, Vanda Spencer Everle(Sam), and Will Dodge; and four great grandchildren, McCarty  Leigh King, Townes Lowe King, Crew Cager King and Julia Collins Wheeler.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Trey Pearce officiating. Burton Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Folds of Honor.
