David Lee Mitchell, 56, of Carthage, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2026, in Hattiesburg.

David was born on January 26, 1970, in Indianola, to James Howard Mitchell and Lois Welch Mitchell. He was a 1988 graduate of Indianola Academy. David worked as a District Manager for Popeyes. He was an extremely hard worker. David loved music and playing bass guitar. He played in several bands throughout the years. He was fun loving and laid back with a dry sense of humor. David loved his family and his kitty cats were his children. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Congregational Methodist Church in Carthage.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Welch Mitchell and brother-in-law, David Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Angela Quick Mitchell; father, James Mitchell; two stepsons, Luke Pierce (Bethany) and Nate Keen; stepdaughter, Emily Keen (Hayden Brooks); brother, James Howard Michell, Jr. (Rhonda); sister, Karen Smith; his beloved kitty cats, Twilight, El Chappo, Baby Mama, Ember, and Eclipse; special niece, Elizabeth Thompson (Nick) and their daughter Wren, Brandy West, Heather Allen (TJ); and special nephews, James Howard "Mitch" Mitchell, III (Elise) and their daughter Charlotte, Jon Hunter Smith and David Smith, Jr. (Amy).

Visitation will be held Friday, May 15, 2026, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The funeral will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Watson Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Inverness. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
