Obituary

On Thursday, May 13, 2021, David Richard "Buster" Fike Sr., of Indianola, MS, passed away at the age of 65, after a 6 year battle with cancer.

Buster was a loving husband, father, papaw, brother, and a friend to many in the community.

Buster was born on May 7, 1956, in Indianola, MS, to Johnny Burke Fike and Margaret (Taylor) Fike Labella. He was the youngest of four children, and is preceded in death by his mother, father, stepfather (Buddy Labella), and his eldest brother, Duane.

On May 23, 1975, he married Patricia Ann Watson, and together they raised 2 children, David Richard "Ricky" Fike, Jr. (Jennifer) of Moorhead, and Lisa Fike Lloyd (Andy) of Inverness. Buster is survived by his wife, children, 4 grandchildren: Emily Fike, Gracyn Fike, Easton Lloyd, and Woods Lloyd, 2 siblings: Danny Fike (Linda) of Grenada, and Kathy Alford (Earl) of Indianola, 13 nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Buster was a 32-year veteran of the Indianola Fire Department and retired in 2006 at the rank of Captain. During some of this time, he also drove a gasoline transport truck for Gresham Petroleum.

Buster was an avid gardener, fisherman, hunter, and sports enthusiast. His homegrown tomatoes were some of the best around, and once you had tried them you were sure to be spoiled forever. On any given day, you could usually find him either working in his garden or in front of the tv cheering on the Rebels or Saints.

The family will receive friends Sunday, May 16, 2021, from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, May 17, 2021, at Burton Funeral Home with Rev. Matthew Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery.
