On the morning of December 2, 2024, Mrs. Dianne Walker Smith, 79, of Inverness, woke up in her heavenly home, free of pain and her many illnesses.

Visitation for Mrs. Smith will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Shelby Hazzard officiating. Burial will follow in Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville. Burton Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Dianne was born in Clarksdale, to George Bernard and Florene Tramel Walker in 1945. She loved to reminisce about her early childhood in Casa Grande, Arizona and Rolling Fork. Her favorite memories of younger years were of her time growing up in Itta Bena, where she attended Leflore County High School. It was May 15, 1959, her 14th birthday, that she attended the Future Farmers of America dance and met who she claimed was the cutest boy there, Edgar B. Smith, III, from Minter City, who was celebrating his 16th birthday. From that night on, they were inseparable. One June 8, 1963, they married in the Presbyterian Church in Itta Bena, where Dianne's family were active members for many years.

Mrs. Smith worked alongside her husband for most of her life and was his support system, doing whatever he needed her to do. For many years she worked as his bookkeeper and secretary at Smith Repair Service in Inverness. After their two children were grown, Dianne fell in love with the process of creating stained glass art in various forms. As word spread about her beautiful workmanship, she was commissioned by people throughout the South to create custom art for their homes and businesses. One of her most visible pieces in Indianola were the beveled glass doors at the entrance to Crosthwait, Terney, and Noble.

Mrs. Dianne Smith is preceded in death by her parents, George B. and Florene Tramel Walker and sister, Mary Florene Blackstone, all of Greenwood; son, Edgar Butler Smith, IV, daughter-in-law, Kimberly Neal Smith; grandchildren, Edgar Butler "E.B." Smith, V, Emily Britt Smith, Everette "Rett" Kimbriel Williams, III; and great-grandchild, Christopher Matthew Williams, all of Inverness.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Edgar Butler Smith, III; daughter, Elizabeth S. Kunefke; son-in-law, Daniel Kunefke all of Inverness; cherished great-granddaughter, Natalie Blake Williams of Cleveland; older brother, George Bernard Walker, Jr.; sister-in-law, Sharon Tucker Walker and family of Friendswood, Texas; younger brother, Wayne Edward Walker; sister-in-law, Kay Carr Walker of Itta Bena and their family; and her deceased sister's son, Edward H. Blackstone, III and his family of Greenwood.

Throughout her 61 years of marriage, Dianne was a devoted wife to Edgar and a loving mother to their two children. She was also a doting grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family beyond measure. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by her numerous family members and close friends.
