Arley Donald "Duck" Young, age 71, of Inverness, passed away Thursday, July 27 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.
Mr. Young was born in Jackson and was the son of Henry Wesley and Carrie Lorene Young. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education and Masters in Mathematics from Delta State University. He was a member of Camden United Methodist Church in Camden, North Carolina.

Donald married Rosemary Pratt in 1969. During their 48 years together, they raised a family of four and lived in Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and relocated back to Mississippi in 2012, after his retirement.
In his lifetime, Mr. Young was the principal of Winona Academy, where he also coached basketball and football. He served as the marketing director for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture. He was an entrepreneur and business owner. He grew greenhouse tomatoes and owned several farmer's markets, and farmed. He enjoyed all sports and was an avid fan of basketball. Mr. Young was a wonderful gardener and a great cook and loved vacationing in the mountains. His greatest accomplishment in life was his family. He was an encourager and a great support to his children, and always taught them to follow their dreams. He loved spending time with his family, and followed his grandson's sporting activities and his granddaughter's gymnastics. He was a remarkable, loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Young will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Dennie Young; and one sister, Frances Varnado. Mr. Young leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Rosemary Young of Inverness, Mississippi; four children, Allison Young McKnight and husband Mike, Melanie Young Curington and husband Trey all of Flora, Mississippi, Donald Jonathan Young of Champagne, Illinois, Justin Bradley Young of Inverness, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Dylan Michael McKnight and Madison Michelle Young; sister-in-law, Melinda Young of Lafayette, Louisiana; sister and brother-in-law Nan & Jesse Bingham of Brandon, Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 30 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will follow in Indianola Memorial Gardens, all under the direction of Burton Funeral Home.
