Dorthy Jean Baggett Nelson, 58, of Florence, passed away Friday, January 21, 2022, at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson.

Dorthy was born January 12, 1964, in the Delta to Benjamin Franklin Baggett and Mittie Lee Brooks Baggett. She worked many years as a server in the casinos in Greenville. Dorthy was always a leader and never a follower. She always said what she thought whether you liked it or not. Dorthy was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gregory Lane Nelson; and many other relatives.

Dorthy is survived by four children, Eric (Mary) Baggett of Puckett, Amanda (Chris) Koeder of Carlisle, Kentucky, Erica Baggett (Robert Padgett) of Cottondale, Florida, and Ariel (Sam) Burnham of Pearl; three brothers, Frank Baggett, Billy Ray Baggett, and James Baggett; five sisters, Shirley Anderson, Dottie Lawler, Betty Mae Gordon, Lillie Kline, and Norma Burden; and 11 grandchildren, Chris Baggett, Aaron Wilkins, Tori Baggett, C.J. Koeder, M.J. Sebren, Ashton Baggett, Alex Koeder, Noah Sebren, Trinity Koeder, Eric Baggett, Jr., and Faylee Baggett.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 29, 2022, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am at Burton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
