Obituary

Douglas Earl Clark (Doug) departed his earthly life peacefully April 18, 2022, surrounded by his family. Doug is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janet, and his beloved twins Jared Clark and Kristen Smith (Martin). He is also survived by two grandchildren, Maisy and Luke Smith, and two brothers, Robert (Bob) Clark (Millie), and Charles Clark (Roslyn) of Memphis, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Doyle Clark and Sybil Mooney Clark Cothran.

While he lived most of his life in Indianola, Doug always considered himself a Moorhead Boy. He was a member of the Moorhead Baptist Church. He operated Clark Auto and Tractor Parts in Moorhead for forty-one years. He was instrumental in the development of the Mississippi Delta Community College Tailgating Club. He served as president of the Indianola Academy Booster Club, the MDCC Alumni Association, the Moorhead Rotary Club, and the Moorhead Chamber of Commerce. Doug loved to cook (and eat) and participated in the Memphis in May Barbeque Competition as a judge for many years. He was an avid fisherman who loved going to different lakes all over the Mississippi delta, but his favorite fishing spots could be found at Lake Washington.  And although he never got the coveted hole in one, he found great enjoyment in playing golf with his friends.

A memorial service for Doug will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Moorhead Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm with the services at 2 pm. Burial will follow the service in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Moorhead Baptist Church, P.O. Box 550, Moorhead, MS 38761, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 3704, Memphis, TN 38101.
