Obituary

Harvey Dwight Abney, 70, of Sunflower, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, at North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville.

Dwight was born June 11, 1953, in Ruleville, to Harvey Abney, Jr. and Frances Hearn Abney. He attended school in Sunflower and Ruleville. Dwight's hobbies included hunting, fishing if he couldn't hunt, and spending time with his family, especially his special niece, Trinity Faith Abney. He loved Ole Miss, his country, and watching Lonesome Dove, where he got the expression "Let the pigs ride in the wagon." Dwight was a member of Sunflower Baptist Church. He was a dearly loved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. Dwight was one of the most giving people you would have ever known.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol Vance Abney; three sons, Scottie Dwight Abney (Andrea), Steven Harvey Abney (Barbara), and Everette Allen Abney; one daughter, Lynda Gail Abney; one brother, Michael Hearn Abney; two sisters, Nancy Miller (John) and Diane Aguzzi (Vic); seven grandchildren, Jake Austin Abney, Scottie Dwight "Buck" Abney, Jr., Steven Michael Abney, John Augustus Breen, Frances Grace Breen, and Steven Harvey Abney, Jr.; and six great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am with Rev. Elbert McKnight officiating. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
