Emma Jean Hughes McDonald, 61, of Grenada and formerly of Indianola, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2015 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born in Hollandale and was the daughter of Johnnie Henry and Beatrice Virginia Hughes.

Jean was a graduate of Indianola Academy and Mississippi Delta Community College. She worked as a nurse for South Sunflower County Hospital for 39 years until her retirement. Jean was a member of Southside Church of Christ in Grenada.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John David Hughes. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, James Stanley McDonald of Grenada; son, Michael David McDonald and his wife Tracey of Brandon; their children, Ella and Olivia McDonald, Laney and Mason Mapp, and Austin Jones; daughter, Heather Tharp Luke and her husband Jake of Grenada; their children, Dakota and David Luke, Clay Simpkins and Kameron Luke; brothers, Robert Hughes of Brandon, Carl Hughes of Rayville, Arkansas, Ronnie Hughes of Paducah, Kentucky; sisters, Dorothy McCrory of Indianola, Linda Fike of Grenada, Frances Hood of Belzoni, and Daisy Giachelli of Holly Ridge.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 2, 2015 at 10:30 am at Southside Church of Christ, Grenada. The family will receive friends Monday, November 2, 2015 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Burton Funeral Home, Indianola. Graveside services will follow in Indianola City Cemetery, all under the direction of Burton Funeral Home.
