Gene Elwin Cline, 73, of Belzoni, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023, at his home.

Gene was born June 1, 1949, in Vernon, Alabama, to Elwin and Ruth Hayes Cline. He graduated from High School in Vernon, and completed Laboratory and X Ray Technology School. After completing school, he moved to Belzoni and was employed at Humphreys County hospital until it's closure, then moving to work at Gorton Clinic in Belzoni until his death. Gene was fun loving, easy going, and full of life. He was a character and enjoyed his time with family and friends. Gene loved cooking and was a wonderful cook. He enjoyed The Blue Room in Belzoni, casino trips, and going riding. Gene was always one to go with the flow and was enjoyable to be around, which made everyone love him. He loved his family and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Gene was a member of First Baptist Church in Belzoni.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwin and Ruth Cline.

Gene is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jan Nichols Cline of Belzoni; two daughters, Lynn Cline Howard of Isola and Allison Cline of Indianola; grandson, Colby Howard (Addie); and two great grandchildren, Hayes and Caroline Howard.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 29, 2023, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, at First Baptist Church in Belzoni. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. George Johnson and Rev. Richard Wiman officiating. Burial will follow in Belzoni Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.

Pallbearers are Jeff Hughes, JJ Pannel, Dr. Carlton Gorton, Allen Childs, Joey Carter, David James, Robert Ragland, Dr. Mack Gorton, and John Shelton. Honorary Pallbearers are Wesley James, Bart Smith, Larkin Chapman, Allen Bridgers, Blake Turner, Denon Braswell, Hall Barret, and Glenn Russell.
