Obituary

Geraldine Forrest, 69, of Indianola, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026, at South Sunflower County Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Lee Forrest; parents, Charlie and Clara Grantham; sister, Brenda Sims; brothers, James Ray Grantham, Paul Wayne Grantham, Timothy Wayne Grantham, and Charles Edward Grantham.

She is survived by her children, Sonia Hernandez (Jose') of Belzoni, Brian Forrest and Kenny Forrest both of Indianola; her much loved grandchildren, Adam Hernandez of Oxford, Anna Hernandez of Indianola, and Alex Hernandez of Belzoni; sister, Sandra Mitchell (Bo) of Indianola, brothers, Douglas Grantham of Memphis, TN and Joseph Grantham (Bettie Jo) of Leland. She is also survived by a much-loved fur baby, a Chihuahua named Amor (Spanish for "Love"), but known as Moomoo most of the time. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and her friends of many years, Lillie Gipson and Eula Smith.

Geraldine was born May 20, 1956, in Sunflower County and was a lifelong native of the Delta. She worked many years at Ruleville Manufacturing as a seamstress before retiring.    She made her life in Moorhead and then Indianola with her husband, Harvey, and their children. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage before his death in 2017. She was a tough cookie, but she was loving and kind, and her sense of humor will be greatly missed. She always said, "If you can't laugh, then why bother," and she did, up until the end.

Special thanks to Dr. Eddie Donahoe, the entire care and nursing staff at South Sunflower County Hospital, Indianola Family Medical, Oncologist Dr. Dennis Morgan at UMMC Jackson & Grenada, Nurse Practitioner (Oncology) Kayla Moore at UMMC Grenada, the ladies and gentlemen of the Grenada UMMC Hospital Ambulatory, Emergency, Radiology, and Administrative units, and everyone not mentioned. They are very kind and professional people who took great care of her.

At her request, no service will be held. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
