Sarah Grace Bates Paxton, 82, of the Caile community in Isola, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at her home.

Grace was born July 1, 1937 in Carrollton to Lawrence and Lucille Carpenter Bates. She was the Isola City Clerk for over 30 years prior to her retirement. Grace later worked at Hometown Restaurant in Inverness for 15 years and she also cooked for the Inverness Rotary Club. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, painting ceramics, shopping at Belk, and going out to eat. Grace was a longtime member of Caile Methodist Church until its closure and then became a member of Inverness United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Lucille Bates; husband, Jimmy Paxton; three sisters, Beulah Dodd, Frances Evans and Carline Bell; and two brothers, Carl Hayden Bates and Bobby Gene Bates.

Grace is survived by two children Diane McCool and Jim Paxton and his wife Anita all of the Caile Community; one sister, Margarette McDaniel; and three grandchildren, Will Paxton, Justin Paxton, and Hayden McCool.

The family will receive friends Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service at Inverness United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Caile Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
