Obituary

Gus Champion Boyd, 95, of Spring, Texas, and formerly of Indianola, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at St. Luke's/Jones Regional Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Gus was born July 19, 1927, in Poplar Creek to William Joseph and Vera Holmes Boyd. He grew up in the Linn Community and attended Linn High School. Gus taught graphic arts at Mississippi Department of Corrections for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Indianola and attended Spring Baptist Church in Spring, Texas after moving in 2011. Gus was the last living of the 12 brothers and sisters. He will always be remembered for giving the best hugs. Gus never met a stranger. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Gus still referred to all his kids as "Babe" or "Honey".

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 65 years, Bobbie Lee Rodgers Boyd; and 11 siblings.

Gus is survived by two sons, Rod (Cathy) Boyd of Muscatine, Iowa and Mike Boyd of Spring, Texas; three daughters, Roxie Boyd (Bill) Ewing of Foley, Alabama, Teresa Boyd (Scott) Yarbrough of Merigold, and Kim Boyd (Johnny) Colburn of Inverness; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

The visitation will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, at Sunflower Baptist Church in Sunflower with Rev. Trey Pearce officiating. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am at Sunflower Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
