Helen Louise Boykin Allison, 88, of Indianola, and formerly of Moorhead, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Indywood Personal Care Home in Indianola.
Helen was born April 26, 1933, in Itta Bena, to John and Clarice Watson Boykin. She was a graduate of Humphreys High School and Sunflower County Junior College where she was a drum major and Miss Homecoming. Helen then attended Millsaps College. She worked at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, kept the books for her husband's farm, and later retired from the US Postal Service. Helen was a member of the Moorhead Garden Club and served on the board of the Sunflower County Health Department. She served on the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Board, and also served as Women's Chair volunteer for many years. Helen was a member of Sunflower Methodist Church and later Moorhead Methodist Church and remained active in both churches until her health deteriorated. She was well known as Mommie and Heidi.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, John E. and Clarice Watson Boykin; husband, Morris Allison; and sister, Allene Fitts.
She is survived by two children, Clara Allison Bilbo (James) of Madison and Hiram (Sheila) Allison of Inverness; grandchildren, Rance Bilbo, Drew (Amanda) Bilbo, and Tyler (Beth) Bilbo, DJ Pittman, Wendy Pittman, and Misty Miller; seven great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Myrtle Holloway of Indianola.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 11, 2021, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Moorhead Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm with Rev. Veronica Pritchard officiating. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Wade Dowell, the staff at South Sunflower County Hospital, the staff at Indywood, and the staff at Grace Hospice for their excellent care.
Memorials may be made to Mississippi Delta Community College, Moorhead Methodist Church, or Delta Grace.
