Jack was born May 18, 1946 in Laurel, MS., to Jack Edward Brown, Sr. and Eula Bridges Brown.
He was of Baptist faith and enjoyed watching Main Street Baptist Church on Sunday mornings.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024 in Indianola City Cemetery
in Indianola, MS.

Jack suffered for many years with multiple illnesses. He never complained of the pain he endured
most of his life from rheumatoid arthritis and depression. Two weeks prior to his death, he was
diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.

As a young man he raced funny cars across the United States. He worked for many years with
Watson Service Company and B&W Petroleum. He was such a familiar face at McDonalds and
Wendy's to the point the employees would always have his large diet coke with light ice ready
when they saw him arrive. Their kindness always made him feel extra special.

Although Jack didn't have a long list of highly regarded accomplishments, he had the kindest and
most loving heart for the homeless cat population in Hattiesburg. The sweet stories his wife
Rebecca loves to tell are the ones unknown to others, but very dear to them both. As he drove to
the grocery store, he discovered kittens located on the side of the roadway. They had apparently
dropped to their death from the motor of a car. Jack picked up the kittens and brought them
home where he built a wooden box for their burial. He created a handmade wooden cross and
nailed it to the top of the box. He also constructed an improvised cat scratcher out of shoe
brushes which allowed a paralyzed cat the ability to scratch like the others. These are just a few
examples of his caring spirit.

Fulfilling a promise to his wife of almost 51 years, Jack is being buried in the Indianola City
Cemetery. His burial will occur on Rebecca's birthday. This is a gift not only to her, but to Jack as
well. He is no longer suffering from pain and battling depression. What a wonderful birthday for
Rebecca and the gift of eternal life for Jack.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Edwards Brown, originally from Indianola, MS.; his daughter,
Tannya Holland (Dave); two grandchildren, Mitzie LaPlante and Sierra Mann of Memphis, TN.;
two nieces by marriage, Becky Wakham Algee (Bob) of Hattiesburg, MS. and Debbie Wakham of
Newton, MS.; and his fur babies, Bea, Helen, Andy, Joe, and Moe.
