James Calvin Hodges, Jr., affectionately known as JC, 89, of Little Rock, Arkansas, and formerly of Indianola, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.

He was born October 10, 1929 in Sunflower County to James Calvin Hodges, Sr. and Mary Belle Jones Hodges. JC served in the United States Navy from 1947-1950 and earned the rank of Yeoman 3rd Class Petty Officer. After discharge from the Navy in 1950, he farmed for several years around the Indianola area. He then went to work for the Mississippi State Employment Service in Yazoo City beginning September 1960. In 1967, he transferred to the Greenville, MS office and then returned to Indianola in 1973 as the Manager of the Indianola State Employment Office. He retired in 1994 after 34 years of service. JC was ordained as a Deacon in 1970 at Parkview Baptist Church in Greenville, Mississippi. He was a former member of Parkview Baptist Church in Greenville and First Baptist Church in Yazoo City. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Indianola. JC was a member of the Indianola Lions Club for 41 years where he was honored as a Lifetime Member.

He was preceded in death by his father, JC Hodges, Sr.; mother, Mary Belle Jones Hodges; stepmother, Louise Hendon Hodges; son, Cal Hodges; two sisters, Marian Hodges Stillions and Etoie Hodges Taylor; and one brother, Max Hodges.

JC is survived by wife, Daphne Bankston Hodges of Little Rock, Arkansas; son, Bob Hodges and wife Laura of Little Rock, Arkansas; and two granddaughters, Michelle Hodges Brand and husband Joseph of Tucker, Georgia and Mary Hodges and fiancée Chris Cop of Goldsboro, Maine.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at First Baptist Church in Indianola. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Dr. Guy Burke and Rev. Bobby Williamson will officiate. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
