James Leon "Bubba" Landwirth, 89, of Inverness, Mississippi, died on Friday, January 5, 2018, at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola. He was born on April 4, 1928, in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, to the late Manual Nathan and Anna Thompson Guinn Landwirth.

After graduating from Inverness High School in three years, he attended the University of Mississippi. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After the War, he embarked on a career path that led him to Bell, Inc. He worked there for fifty years and retired in 2014 at the age of 86.

James married Bettye Jean Ivy on January 24, 1953, and they made their home in Inverness. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Inverness, where he previously served as a deacon. He was a member of the Inverness Lions Club for many years and was elected Citizen of the Year by the Inverness Chamber of Commerce in 2012.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Bettye Ivy Landwirth; and sister, Barbara Ann Landwirth Beckham and her husband James Lee Beckham. He is survived by his son, James David Landwirth of Inverness; daughter, Carol Virginia Landwirth of Jackson; sister, Alyce Landwirth Weems and husband James Edwin "Jimmy" Weems of Inverness; and a host of extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018, in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church of Inverness preceding the 2:00 funeral. Burial will follow in Southside Cemetery in Inverness. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola is in charge of arrangements.
