James Albert "Jimmy" Moore, Jr., 75, of Moorhead, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Indianola Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Jimmy was born September 10, 1947, in Moorhead, to James Albert and Robbie Wilson Moore. He was a graduate of Moorhead High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University. Jimmy married Sandra Hobbs on July 10, 1964, and together they made their home in Moorhead. He enlisted in the Mississippi Army National Guard in 1965 and served 27 years before retiring with the rank of Major. Jimmy worked for Mississippi Delta Community College as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for 19 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Moorhead Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon since 1974. Jimmy was the President of Moorhead Cemetery Board for 18 years and was a member of the American Legion for 20 years. He loved hunting and being a guardsman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; James A. "Sarge" Moore, Sr. and Robbie Wilson Moore and one brother, Mark Wilson Moore.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra Hobbs Moore of Moorhead; son, James A. "Trey" Moore, III (Veronica) of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter, Amber Moore Thompson (Tom) of Madison; sister, Robbie Sandra Thompson of Oxford; and five grandchildren, Daniel Moore of San Antonio, Texas, Dominic Moore of Kansas City, Missouri, Gabriela Moore of San Antonio, Texas, Hunter Thompson of Madison, and H.A. Thompson of Madison.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2022, from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at Moorhead Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm with Rev. Veronica Pritchard and Dr. Tommy Williamson officiating. A private family burial will follow in Moorhead Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
