Dr. James Clyde Murphy, 76, of Indianola died Saturday, March 21, 2015 at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola. Service arrangements are incomplete at this time.
He was born September 28, 1938 in Bessemer, Alabama, and was the son of William Fulton and Ina Shoemaker Murphy. He received his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Auburn University; Master's degree from the University of Mississippi; and PhD from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Murphy was employed with South Sunflower County Hospital. Among his many hobbies, Dr. Murphy loved airboating on the St. Johns River. He enjoyed motorcycles – Harleys, and the activities of Bike Week. Dr. Murphy also loved to run marathons.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by three sons, James Clyde "Jay" Murphy, Jr. of Baldwyn, Curt Andrew Murphy of New Orleans, Gregory William Murphy of Oxford; two daughters, Amy Murphy Donnelly and Rhonda Murphy Cook both of Oxford; one brother, Thomas F. Murphy of Senatobia; and eight grandchildren.
