James Carroll Scroggins, 87, of Belzoni, passed away Monday, February 20, 2023, at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola.

James, affectionately known as Jimmy, was born June 29, 1935, in Greenville, to James Clayton and Ottlie Lea Scroggins. He was a Mississippi Army National Guard Veteran and was a longtime member of Reed Deer Camp. Jimmy worked as a hardware salesman and owned Scroggins Hardware. After its closing, he went to work for Henderson & Baird in Greenwood, retiring in 1999 after many years. Jimmy married the love of his life, Martha Stancill Outlaw Scroggins, and together they made their home in Belzoni. Marrying late in life, the two never had children of their own, but they considered Paul and Kristie Williams as their children. He was a devoted member and Deacon Emeritus at First Presbyterian Church in Belzoni. Jimmy exemplified the love of Christ in the way he lived and the love he had for his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Scroggins; and sister, Mildred Johnson.

Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Martha Outlaw Scroggins of Greenville; special family, Paul and Kristie Williams, Josh and Christa Williams, Mari-Adan and Dean Johnson, and Justin and Erin Alexander; brother-in-law, Charles W. "Sonny" Johnson (Sharon); one niece, Cheryl White Stewart; and two nephews, James W. "Bill" Johnson (Nicole) and Richard C. "Rich" Johnson (Tonya).

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Belzoni City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
