James Walker Sory, Jr. was born August 3, 1942, in Greenwood, MS to James Walker Sory, Sr. and Esther Jaquith Sory. A lifelong resident of Isola, MS, Walker loved music and through the years played with many talented bands. He played the organ and piano for the Isola Methodist Church where he was a loyal and dedicated member. He especially enjoyed performing with his brother Eddie whenever the occasion arose. Walker was an avid golfer and enjoyed many an afternoon on the golf course with friends. Walker passed away on November 29, 2020 in Indianola, MS.
Walker graduated from Isola High School and attended Mississippi Delta Junior College from where he excelled in basketball and baseball. In 2007, he was inducted into the Mississippi Delta Community College Sports Hall of Fame. He attended Millsaps College and graduated from Delta State University in 1965 with a degree in accounting. Walker served in the Mississippi National Guard with the 198 th Battalion Armor Division from 1965-1971. He was employed as an accountant for B.A. Wright Farms until he began working as a rural mail carrier with the United States Postal Service and retired in 2014 after 36 years of service.
He was proceeded in death by his father, J.W. Sory, mother, Esther Sory, and brother Eddie Sory. Survivors include his wife Susie Sory of Isola; son, Walker Sory, III and wife Christine of Jefferson, LA; Maribeth Sory Snow and husband Paul of Madisonville, LA; step-daughter, Amanda Bishop and husband Chris of Booneville, MS. Also survived by 5 grandchildren, Alston Snow, Addie Snow, Preston Bishop, Ryder Bishop, and JanieBeth Bishop.
In lieu of flowers the family is appreciative of memorial gifts to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital or Inverness United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held at Belzoni Cemetery in Belzoni, MS at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, with Rev. Allen King officiating. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
