Obituary

Janice Elizabeth Hughes Foster passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, September 28, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. Jan was born August 27, 1951, in Belzoni, to the late G.Y. and Louise Beckwith.

Jan grew up in Belzoni and attended school in Silver City. She was known for her love of cooking and her hospitality. Her door was always open, welcoming her family and friends. Her favorite pastime was watching her grandchildren play sports. Jan was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Belzoni.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents, G.Y. and Louise Beckwith; her first husband, J. H. Hughes; her second husband, Walter Foster; brother, Jimmy McNair; son, Stanley Hughes; nieces, Tana Hughes and Kayla Davenport, daughter in law, Rita Hughes; and grandson, Andrew Green.

She is survived by her beloved children, Jay (Amanda) Hughes, Greg (Angie) Hughes, Jeff (Ruth) Hughes; stepchildren, Michelle Simpson, Vic Hughes, Barbara (John) Newman, Scott (Nurlana) Foster, Peri (Lewis) Hoffman, and Sharon (Allen) Green; grandchildren Nadia Hughes, Cory (Callie) Hughes, Cole Heigle, Hunter Hughes, Logan Heigle, Hollis Hughes, Brett Hughes, Ty Hughes, Dusty Simpson, Sesily (Steven) Vinson, Alyssa Phillips, Dylan Simpson, Amber (Lawrence) Swindell, Steven Johnson, Anna (Steven) Chatham, Chris (Remy) Foster, Walter Foster, Mark (Sarah) Foster, Michael Foster, Donna Hampton, David Beachum, Heath (Lily) Beachum, Benjamin James, Christian Hoffman, Zach Hoffman, and Lola Green; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous other family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, Thursday, September 30, 2021, First Presbyterian Church in Belzoni. Services will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church in Belzoni, at 3:00 pm with Rev. Richard Wiman, Rev. Johnathan McGuire, and Rev. Benard Luckett officiating. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.

A special thanks to her caregivers; her sisters, Lisa and Dixie; and all the Adoration Hospice Team. We will never forget the time you devoted and the love you gave.
