Janice Ann Allen Matthews, 71, of Indianola, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood.

Janice was born June 29, 1947 in Indianola to Walter Allen and Annie Mae King. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Janice enjoyed traveling with her husband and reading. She was known to irritate her grandchildren for fun. Janice worked as a clerk for most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Stephanie Matthews.

Janice in survived by her husband of 52 years, Sam Matthews, Sr.; one daughter, Dana Matthews of Indianola; one son, Sam Matthews, Jr. and his wife Wendy of Vidor, Texas; brothers; Charles Edward Allen and his wife Janice of Los Angeles, California, Bo Allen and his wife Jo of Kirksville, Missouri; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 11:00 am at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will follow in Crowder Cemetery in Crowder, Mississippi.
