Graveside services for Jay Steven Hughes, 51, of Isola, will be at 11:00 am, Friday, December 24, 2021, at Gooden Lake Cemetery in Belzoni with Rev. Richard Wiman officiating. He passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Jay was born September 11, 1970, in Belzoni, to John Haney Hughes and Jan Green Hughes. He worked for his father at J H Hughes Construction Company during his younger years. Jay then went to work for Brookie Duett as a tractor driver doing dirt bucket work and stayed there 16 years. He later went to work for Jimmy Lloyd driving a tractor and doing dirt work and had worked there for 16 years. Jay was a heck of a tractor driver and loved every minute of it. He was a gentle spirit and was like a big teddy bear. Jay had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making everyone laugh. He loved his mom's and his daughter's cooking. Jay loved to hunt from his truck, fishing, and riding backroads.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.H. Hughes; mother, Jan Hughes Foster; stepfather, Walter Foster; and brother, Stanley Hughes.

Jay is survived by his wife, Amanda Hughes; daughter, Nadia Christine Hughes; three brothers, Victor Hughes of Lexington, Kentucky, Greg (Angie) Hughes of Belzoni, and Jeff (Ruth) Hughes of Belzoni; sister, Michelle Simpson of Lexington, Kentucky; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews that all loved him dearly.
