Obituary

Jeanice Stone Smith, 84, of Indianola, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Indywood Estates in Cleveland.

Jeanice was born January 11, 1940, in Linn, to Sam and Janie Mitchell Stone. She was a graduate of Linn High School. Jeanice worked in medical records at South Sunflower County Hospital and in insurance and billing at Indianola Family Medical Group in Indianola for 36 years prior to her retirement in 2016. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, going to antique and resale shops, and reading. Her love for reading led her to spend time volunteering at the library. Jeanice was a loving mother and absolutely cherished her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and never met a stranger. Jeanice was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church in Indianola.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Boyd Smith; and her son-in-law, Omrie Hayes.

Jeanice is survived by her son, Michael Smith (Janet) of Indianola; daughter, Cindy Smith Hayes of Pontotoc; brother, Sammy Stone (Diane) of New Albany; and two grandchildren, Bradley Aderholt (Megan) and Katie Stacy (Daniel).

Visitation will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 11:00 am until the 1:00 pm funeral service at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Her beloved friend and neighbor, Rev. Herron Wilson, will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association or any charity of the donor's choice.
