Jerry Neal Mitchell, 80, of Indianola, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at his home.

Jerry was born August 5, 1944, in Indianola, to Tom Byrd Mitchell and Flora Lee Holmes Mitchell. He was raised in the Marie community of Indianola and attended Indianola High School. Jerry joined the United States Army out of high school. After his discharge, he married Carylon Mullen, and they made their home in Indianola. Jerry worked for Yokley and Lundy Auction Company for 25 years prior to his retirement. He also farmed his family land for many years. Jerry loved cooking and spending time with his friends. He was known as "The Mayor of Marie".  His other interests were traveling and taking cruises.   Jerry was a longtime member of Fairview Baptist Church in Indianola.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Thomas Allen Mitchell, Robert Stanley Mitchell, James Mitchell, Linn Mitchell, and Gordon Mitchell.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carylon Mullen Mitchell of Indianola; son, Scott Mitchell (Anna) of Indianola; brother, J.W. "Shine" Mitchell (Mary Ann) of Gulfport; two sisters-in-law, Doris Earls Mitchell of Doddsville and Lois Gant Mitchell of Charleston; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 24, 2025, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Graveside services will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Indianola with Rev. Jim Woods officiating. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
