Jimmie Lee Evans, Jr., 74, of Isola, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson.
Jimmie was born March 11, 1947, in Greenville, to Jimmie Lee Evans and Bessie Cornelia Smith Evans. He graduated from Inverness High School and Sunflower County Junior College. After school, he served in the Mississippi Army National Guard and after discharge, began a long spanning career as a tractor parts specialist. Jimmie worked for Shepherd Auto & Tractor, Indianola Tractor Company, Sunflower Tractor Company, and finished his career at Ayers Delta Implement, retiring after 17 years of service there. He was also a farmer by night, helping his father farm their family land for well over 20 years after he got off from his day job. Jimmie was a board member of South Sunflower Water Association for many years and served as President of the board. Jimmie was a board member for Caile Cemetery Association for over 20 years, a member of the Central Delta Academy school board for 5 years, and a member of First Baptist Church of Inverness where he was a deacon. He was past master of the TJ Catchings Masonic Lodge #394 in Inverness. He joined in 1985 and served in all offices. Jimmie was also a member of Delta York Rite in Greenville. He was a firefighter for the Inverness Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Miller Evans of Isola; three sons, Jimmie Lee Evans, III (Beth) of Inverness, John Albert Evans of Kiln, and Jody Evans (Kathryn) of Inverness; sister, Bettye Sue Quinley of Dyre, Tennessee; and five grandchildren, Julia Smith, Mikayla Smith, Avery Brynn Evans, Bann Evans, and Kate Hammond Evans.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 13, 2021, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola, and from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Inverness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Inverness with Pastor Greg Hood officiating. Burial will follow in Caile Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
