Jimmy Algie Boswell, 88, of Indianola, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home on June 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.

Jimmy was born on September 14, 1937, in Boyle, Mississippi, to R.A. "Shorty" Boswell and Mildred Linville Reed. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a radio operator stationed in Germany before returning home.

Jimmy was known for his quiet nature, his unwavering kindness, and a smile that made everyone feel welcome.

For more than 30 years, Jimmy worked as the Automotive Parts Manager at Weathersby Chevrolet. He took tremendous pride in his work and built lifelong friendships with coworkers who became family. Anyone who drove a Chevrolet in the Delta knew Jimmy Boswell.

Jimmy loved to run and did so faithfully for more than three decades. Rain or shine, he spent his lunch breaks logging miles through Indianola and beyond. If Antoinette and his daughters were on their way to Cleveland, he would start running there and would make it all the way to Shaw, MS, before he needed to be picked up. One could say it was because he would have been stuck in the car with four girls. He competed in races nearly every weekend, collecting T-shirts that remain treasured sleep shirts that his family enjoy.

A lifelong gardener, Jimmy found joy in planting and sharing its harvest.

Jimmy also took great pride in his yard, especially his beloved St. Augustine grass. His daughters still laugh about the strict rules against kickball games and slip-and-slides on the lawn. Even in the final weeks of his life, Jimmy could be found outside raking leaves beneath the cypress tree.

Faith was the cornerstone of Jimmy's life. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Indianola, where he served faithfully as a deacon, choir member (even though his children and grandchildren never knew him to carry a tune), sound technician, youth bus driver, and women's volleyball coach. His Sunday school class ministered to widows by picking them up, and ensuring they could attend Sunday worship.

Jimmy shared a remarkable 65-year marriage with the love of his life, Antoinette Goforth Boswell. He adored his three daughters, Stephanie, Heather, and Melaine. Family beach vacations, afternoons in the sun, and simply spending time together brought him immense joy. He loved the beach and sitting in the sun.

Jimmy loved being "Papaw." Especially with the birth of his first grandchild, a boy, Wes. Jimmy played a major role in Wes's life. Wes spend a large part of his first 20 years with his Papaw and Grandma. He treasured his grandchildren—Wes, Maggie, Aly, Cassidy, Lake, and Hattie—and later delighted in becoming a great-grandfather. Most weekends were spent together taking evening walks, catching fireflies, building sandcastles, or simply enjoying time together. His daughters faithfully captured those moments through countless photographs, and in every picture of Jimmy with his grandchildren, his smile stretches from ear to ear. His grandchildren believed their Papaw hung the moon, and they will miss him dearly.

In his later years, Jimmy enjoyed spending time with neighbors. Some of Jimmy's best memories were made with his friend Dwayne. The two could often be found riding around in Dwayne's truck, getting into adventures that only they knew the full details of. Jimmy would come home eager to share stories from their day, many of which left Antoinette and his daughters laughing and questioning how two old men could find so much trouble to get into. One of his most faithful companions was his beloved dog, Max, who rarely left his side and remained near him until the very end.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R.A. "Shorty" Boswell and Mildred Boswell Reed; his stepfather, Curtis Reed; and his brother, Clyde Boswell.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Antoinette Goforth Boswell of Indianola; his daughters, Stephanie Boswell Strowd of Indianola, Heather Boswell Card (Marc) of Oxford, and Melaine Boswell Melton of Madison; his brothers, Billy Boswell of Cleveland and Curtis Boswell (Joy) of Fairhope, Alabama; his grandchildren, Wes Strowd (Lauren), Maggie Melton Mullins (Sage), Aly Card, Cassidy Card, Lake Melton, and Hattie Melton; and his great-grandchildren, Ann-Wesley Strowd and Brooks Mullins.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who visited, called, brought food, prayed, and loved Jimmy so faithfully throughout his life and during his final days. Jimmy was a humble man that loved God and his family rests easy knowing that he is healed in heaven and they will join him one day.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Indianola City Cemetery. Visitation will follow in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church of Indianola. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
