Joanne Savell Hawkins, 85, of Belzoni, passed away Friday, February 17, 2023, at Humphreys County Nursing Center in Belzoni.

Joanne was born August 22, 1937, in Sebastopol, Mississippi, to William and Mary Ezell Savell. She grew up in Silver City and lived in Humphreys County for most of her life. Joanne was a homemaker but stayed active working as a seamstress, making wedding cakes, and cooking for her family. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. She loved flowers. Joanne married Glen Hawkins, Sr. in 1961, and they made their home in Belzoni. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Belzoni.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Hawkins, Sr.; son, Mike Hawkins; four sisters, Barbara Brey, Jacqueline Walters, Kay Blake, and Irene Jones; and four brothers, John Clayton Savell, James Merlee Savell, Harry Earl Savell, and Gary Richmond Savell.

She is survived by one son, Bill Hawkins (Renee) of Belzoni; daughter, Rhonda Sanders of Hermitage, Tennessee; stepson, Glen "Bubba" Hawkins, Jr. (Ann) of Inverness; two sisters, Annie Maxine Herring of Dickinson, Texas and Billie Jean Hodges of League City, Texas; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 20, 2023, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, at Calvary Baptist Church in Belzoni. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. A private family graveside will follow in Methena Cemetery in Belzoni. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
