Joe Chambless "Chuck" Ellis, 70, of Drew, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. Mr. Ellis was born January 9, 1950 and was the son of Charles Kimbrel and Estelle Ballard Ellis.
Mr. Ellis was a United States Army Veteran having served his country from 1969-1972 in Vietnam. He was full time National Guard for 10 years, after his discharge. He later became the shop maintenance supervisor for a trucking company. Mr. Ellis retired and moved closer to home to be able to watch his oldest grandson play football.
Mr. Ellis was the life of the party, and always told the best stories. He loved football, and as his family tells it, he once had a heart attack watching a football game! He also loved playing cards and dominos.
Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dean Ellis. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Corey Ellis Smith and husband Chris of Moorhead, Shelby Ellis of Denver, Colorado; son, Matthew Ellis and wife Rachel of Denver, Colorado; brothers, Sam Ellis and wife Gail of Hernando, Gary Ellis and wife Sonia of Delta City; sisters, Sue Gray, Jean Cummins and husband Gerry all of Drew; and three Grandchildren, John Abbott Smith, Keegan Ellis, and Reed Smith.
A private family memorial service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made, on behalf of Reed Smith, to Millcreek, Attention: ICFIID Director, 900 First Avenue N.E., Magee, MS 3911.
Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
