Joe R. Hawkins, 89, of Indianola, Mississippi went home to be with the Lord on August 15, 2022 at his home after a brief illness with his family by his side. His life will be celebrated with a service on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Burton Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and burial will follow the service.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Indianola. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He loved his family with a passion. He enjoyed being around people. He could tell jokes without ceasing. He touched many lives, and he will be missed by so many.

He is survived by his precious wife of 64 years, Sherry McMinn Hawkins. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Joey Hawkins (Kim), Becky Dotson, Laura Weems, Glynda Wright and Jeanie Habig (David). His grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Trey Weems, Zach Jordan, Chase Weems, Hunter Hawkins, Parker Weems, Peyton Weems, Jacob Habig and Ryan Dotson. His granddaughters are Ana Katelyn Vance, Holly Hawkins, Kellie Habig, Barbara Ann Whitfield and Jesse Dotson. He had three great grandchildren: Daisy Jordan, Rory Hawkins and Ellis Vance. In addition, he had two God Children, Katie Dodd and Skipper Dodd.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Indianola or Indianola Academy.
