John Coyette
Hendon
Sep 29, 1937 — Jul 26, 2023
Cleveland
John Coyette Hendon, 85, of Shaw, passed away Wednesday, July 26th, 2023, at Azalea Commons in Cleveland.
John was born September 29, 1937, in Choctaw, to William Coyette Hendon and Wilma Watkins Hendon. He farmed for many years prior to his retirement. He is most remembered for his devotion to God and his family. He was a godly husband, father, and grandfather. Despite the many obstacles he faced, he continued to keep his faith. His family can only imagine he heard the words 'well done good and faithful servant!' His grandchildren have fond memories of building a tree house, going on rides in the thunderbird, having lunch at Gino's, and tinkering around the farm with him. He was his grandchildren's biggest fan and never missed a sporting event.
John was preceded in death by his parents; Coyette and Wilma Hendon; son, Richard Prather Hendon; brother, William Elliott Hendon; and sister, LaVera Hendon Morris.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Prather Hendon of Cleveland; son, Coyt Hendon (Charlsie) of Madison; daughter, Joyce Ann Aycock of Boyle; brother, Donnie Hendon (Nyleene) of Paris, Tennessee; two sisters, Judi Otts (Buddy) of Indianola and Julie Spencer (Art) of Harvest, Alabama; and six grandchildren, John Thomas Aycock, Reese Aycock, Gracen Hendon, Caroline Hendon, Trace Hendon, and Catherine Hendon.
The graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 10:00 am, at Fairview Cemetery in Indianola with Rev. Tim Starnes officiating. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Zoe Ministries, PO Box 2029, Cleveland, MS 38732 or Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 492 Fairview Rd., Indianola, MS 38751.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Grace Hospice, Adrienne Hood, and his devoted sitters for the compassionate care given to Mr. Hendon.
