Obituary

Joseph Clyde Seymour, Jr., 89, of Oxford, and formerly of Indianola and Mobile, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North Mississippi in Oxford.
Mr. Seymour was born August 21, 1928 in Birmingham, Alabama to Joseph Clyde and Dovie Marsh Seymour. He received his Master's Degree from Troy University in Troy, Alabama. Mr. Seymour joined the United States Army in 1951 and spent 20 years career serving his country, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. After his retirement, he became an avid golfer. He and his wife, Sylvia, made their home in Mobile, Alabama but traveled all over the country playing golf. Mr. Seymour won several Alabama Seniors Golf Championships. The Seymour's moved to Indianola in the late 90's. After the death of his wife, he moved into Indywood Personal Care Home in Indianola and met Esther Bennett, and they later married. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Indianola.
Mr. Seymour was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sylvia McCarty Seymour; his second wife, Esther Bennett Seymour; two brothers, Robert Earl Seymour, and John Seymour; and three sisters, Sarah Cowan, Susie Snider, and Mary Seymour.
He is survived by his brother, James Frank Seymour, and his wife Martha of Birmingham, Alabama; sister, Hazel Norris of Concord, Alabama; brother in law, Alvin McCarty, and his wife Katherine of Sunflower; nephew, Chuck McCarty, and his wife Marcia of Oxford; and niece, Cindy Miller and her husband, Lynn of Sunflower.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 25, 2018, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Graveside services will follow at Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
