Obituary

Ruby Josephine Vickers Gullett, 89, of Oxford and formerly of Inverness, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Oxford Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Josephine was born August 21, 1929 in Itta Bena to Henry Joseph Vickers and Ruby Lee Aldridge Vickers. Mrs. Gullett was a seamstress and worked for Ideal Cleaners for 15 years prior to her retirement. Josephine was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved cooking, gardening, sewing, embroidering, working word search puzzles, and anything her husband told her she didn't need to do. Josephine often helped her husband with painting, pouring concrete, and even driving bean trucks. She also loved taking care of people.  More than anything, she loved spending time with her family. She had a caring and gentle spirit. There wasn't much she couldn't do. Josephine was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Inverness.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Elaine Gullett; and one brother, Sam Vickers.

Josephine is survived by four children, Johnny Gullett and his wife Tina of Belzoni, Elaine Clark and her husband Buster of Oxford, Joe Gullett and his wife Janice of Bullard, Texas, and Ricky Gullett and his wife Janice of Inverness; one brother, James Lewis Vickers and his wife Shirley of Eden; sister-in-law, Sue Gullett Fitts of Greenville; seven grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and a host of friends at Hermitage Gardens in Oxford.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 26, 2019, from 11:00 am until the 1:00 pm funeral service at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Rev. Jimmy McLendon will officiate. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

A special thanks for the loving care provided by Hermitage Gardens and staff, Dr. Shaun Helmhout, Kindred Hospice, Oxford Health and Rehabilitation, and Baptist Hospice.
